Removing Starter Motor - Briggs 850/950
IMPORTANT
This procedure will require the removal of the engine from the vehicle for best access
to the starter motor mounting fasteners. It will also ensure proper alignment during
installation and proper torque values for the starter motor bolts.
1. Remove the engine from the vehicle. Refer to Removing The Engine (Briggs 850/950)
in the engine section of this service guide.
2. Place the engine to a clean work bench.
3. Locate the starter at the front of the engine.
4. Remove the two (2) bolts securing the starter to the engine block.
5. Slide the starter out from the blower housing side of the engine.
6. Install starter motor and torque bolts to 140 in. lbs. (16 Nm)
7. Reinstall the engine. Refer to Installing The Engine Briggs (850/950) in the engine
section of this service guide.
