Digital Audio Generator Mode (D:GEN)
The Digital Gen Mode controls the audio embedded in the digital
signal. The Amplitude controls will control the amplitude of both
channels of the imbedded audio signal. The Frequency controls will
control the frequency of both channels of the imbedded audio signal.
The generator section of the panel will display the current amplitude,
frequency, and waveform shape.
The lower left soft key on the Generator Only panel allows selection of
the type of dither on the digital audio signal. Subsequent presses of
the key allow selection of triangular, rectangular, shaped, or no dither.
The lower center soft key on the Generator Only panel allows
selection of the number of bits (word length) of the embedded audio
signal. Subsequent presses select 24, 22, 20, 18, or 16 bits.
The upper left soft key on the Generator Only panel allows selection
of the digitally generated waveform. The available choices are SINE,
SQR, IMD (if IMD option is present), RAND, JTEST, and PASS.
The SINE and SQR selections generate sine and square waves of
selectable frequency and amplitude.
The IMD selection (only available if IMD option is present) generates
one of a number of common intermodulation distortion test signals.
These signals are composed of two sine waves, one at a high
frequency and one at a low frequency, combined in a 4:1 amplitude
ratio. The frequency combination is shown on the right side of the
generator display section and can be selected by the bottom right soft
key on the Generator Only panel.
The RAND selection generates a pseudo-random sequence of
numbers. It is generally used for data integrity tests using the Data ü
measurement function.
The JTEST selection generates a sequence that is used for testing for
jitter caused by transmission through a cable or other medium.
The PASS selection takes the embedded audio data directly from the
digital input and retransmits it without alteration. The status bits are
not passed through - the outgoing status bits are set on the Status Bits
