panel. If the input signal has high jitter or other impairments, these
effects will be reduced or eliminated in the retransmission process.
When using PASS mode, the digital generator output sample rate must
be programmed to match the incoming sample rate. The output rate
must be programmed to within 25 ppm of the incoming rate for the
PASS mode to function properly. The output will be synchronized
with the input. If you are not certain of the incoming sample rate,
measure it using the DIGITAL I/O function.
Since the RAND, JTEST, and PASS selections have no amplitude
control, and may have very high amplitudes relative to the other
selections, the digital generator is automatically turned off when
entering any of these waveform types and must be explicitly turned on
again after the waveform type is selected.
Digital Sample Rate Generator Mode (D:RATE)
The Digital Rate Mode allows control of the sample rate and signal
amplitude of the digital output carrier signal. The Amplitude controls
will control the peak-to-peak voltage of the digital carrier signal (that is,
the level of the AES/EBU or SPDIF-EIAJ signal itself). The Frequency
controls will control the sample rate. The generator section of the
panel will display the current sample rate and carrier voltage.
The lower right soft key provides control of the synchronization of the
sample rate to an external source or ‘house sync’. The synchronization
can be off, so that the output sample rate is generated internally, or it
can be synchronized to the external reference input.
There are three synchronization options. OFF will let the output run
free, without being synchronized to the external reference. -REF will
synchronize to the external reference, and the output will lead the
reference by a user-selectable time interval. +REF will synchronize to
the external reference and the output will lag the reference by a
user-selectable time interval.
When either +REF or -REF is selected, a display will appear on the
right side of the generator section of the display showing the lead or
lag in UI (Unit Intervals). Pressing the upper right soft key will change
the amount of lead or lag. The available options are 0, 0.5, 1, 5, 10,
or 50 UI.
