(for analog domain tests), both in digital mode (for digital domain
tests), or one may be in analog and the other in digital (for
cross-domain tests).
There is a white dot next to the word ‘ANALOG’ and a blue dot next
to the word ‘DIGITAL’ on the mode indicator. These dots are used to
determine which measurement function will be selected by each
FUNCTION button. Most of the FUNCTION buttons choose the same
measurement in both analog and digital domains, so they are marked
with a dot of each color. Other FUNCTION buttons have a different
measurement for the two modes, so one will be marked with a blue
dot and the other with a white dot.
Input Selection Keys
The Input Selection keys (to the left and right of the digital/analog
button) control what channel is being measured by the analyzer, and
whether the signal comes from the analog or digital inputs or the
internal generator-monitor (or gen-mon) path. The gen-mon path
provides a direct connection from the analog or digital generator to
the analyzer for reference measurements.
Most measurements only use a single signal source (channel). For
these measurements, pressing the INPUT A button will cause the
measurement to be taken from the digital or analog input channel A.
Pressing the INPUT A button again will cause the measurement to be
taken from the channel A gen-mon path. Pressing the INPUT B
button will cause the measurement to be taken from the digital or
analog input channel B. Pressing the INPUT B button again will
cause the measurement to be taken from the channel B gen-mon path.
Other functions (such as the Level function) take two input sources
(channels). These measurements provide different combinations with
subsequent presses of the Input Selection buttons. The specific
combinations available, and the effect of each button press, are listed
with the description of the function.
Since both channels of digital audio travel on the same path, the
digital functions do not allow one input channel and one gen-mon
channel in multiple-source functions. Both must come from either the
input or the gen-mon path. Therefore, there are fewer channel
options.
