4.4 Installation of th e xenon bulb lamp
WARNING: DO NOT P ERMIT UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL TO PERFORM OR ATTEMPT ANY PHASE OF
XENON LAM P HA NDLING OR SERVICE. ONLY TRAINED AN D QUALIFIED TECHNICAL S ERVICE PERSONNEL
ARE ALLOWED TO HANDLE THE XEN ON LAMP.
WARNING: This procedure may only be performed by qualified technical service personnel.
CAUTION: Xenon comp act arc lamps are highly p ressu rized. W hen ignited, the norm al operating temperature
of the bulb increases the pressure to a level at which the bulb may explode if not handled in strict accord ance
to the manufacturer’s instructions. The bulb is stable at room temperature, but may still explode if dropped or
otherwise mishandled. W hen ever the lamp house, containing a xenon lamp , has to be dism antled or when ever
the protective container or cloth has to be removed from the xenon lamp , authorized protective clothing MU ST
be worn!
WARNING: Always wear fa ce pro tection (full face shield with neck protector) when handling xeno n lamps.
WARNING: Alw ays wear protective clothing (welder’s jacket) when handling x enon lamps.
WARNING: Alwa ys wear clean leather gloves w ith w rist protectors w hen handling xen on lamps.
This procedure assumes that the anode support assembly and the side cover are already removed from the
Lamp House due to the removal of the xenon lamp.
Necessary tools
• Torque wrench with a 2 ,5 mm Allen socket.
• 1,5 mm A llen wrench.
• 22 m m open-end w rench.
• Torque wrench with a 22 mm hexagon s ocket.
• Torque wrench with a 5 m m A llen socket.
How to install the xenon lamp
1. Install the appropriate lam p cathode ad apter upon the cathode of the xenon lamp. Fasten the set screw of the cathode adapter
with a torque of 2,5 Nm (1,84 lbf*ft). U se a torque wrench with a 2,5 m m Allen socket. Make sure that there is full contact between
the ada pter flat surface and the lamp base. Note that some lamp types have a cathode pin w ith screw thread.
Tip: See "Introduction", page 32, supported xenon bulb lamps to know which c athode adapter your lamp requ ires.
Warning: Install the cathode adapter prior to removing the protective container or protective cloth from the xenon lamp.
