9. Reconnect the batteries and turn on the key
switch.
5-2.2. Control Arm Removal.
1. Turn off the key switch and disconnect the batter-
ies.
2. Remove the gas return spring as described in
paragraph 5-2.1.
3. Disconnect harness from main harness.
4. Attach a hoist to control arm.
5. Remove screws, shaft and the control arm.
5-2.3. Control Arm Installation.
1. Position control arm on bracket and secure with
shaft, screw and screw.
2. Reconnect harness to main harness.
3. Install the gas return spring as described in para-
graph 5-2.1.
4. Reconnect the batteries and turn on the key
switch.
5-3. COMPARTMENT COVERS
5-3.1. Removal.
1. Turn off the key switch and disconnect the batter-
ies.
2. Remove two screws, washers and swing covers
open. Covers may be lifted off hinges.
3. Remove three screws, lock washers, flat washers
and cover.
4. Remove two screws, washers and upper cover .
5. Remove screws, lock washer, flat washer and
cover.
6. Remove four screws washers and cover.
5-3.2. Installation.
1. Install cover and secure with four screws and
washers.
2. Install cover and secure with screws, lock wash-
ers, flat washers.
3. Install upper cover and secure with two screws
and washers.
4. Install cover, three screws, lock washers and flat
washers.
5. Position covers on hinges. Close the covers and
secure with two screws and washers.
6. Reconnect the batteries and turn on the key
switch.
5-4. STEERING CONTROL
5-4.1. Removal.
1. Turn off the key switch and disconnect the batter-
ies.
2. Remove the compartment covers as described in
paragraph 5-3.
3. Disconnect potentiometer from harness.
4. Remove two screws, lock washers, flat washers
and remove mounting plate from bracket.
5. Remove rocker from shaft of potentiometer.
6. Remove two screws, lock washers, flat washers,
plate and potentiometer from mounting plate.
7. Remove two screws, lock washers and cam.
8. Remove two screws, lock washers, flat washers
and damper.
5-4.2. Installation.
1. Install damper and secure with two screws, lock
washers and flat washers.
2. Install cam and secure with two screws, lock
washers.
3. Position potentiometer on mounting plate and
secure with plate, two screws, lock washers, and
flat washers.
4. Position rocker on shaft of potentiometer.
5. Install mounting plate on bracket and secure with
two screws, lock washers, flat washers.
6. Reconnect potentiometer to harness.
7. Install the compartment covers as described in
paragraph 5-3.
8. Reconnect the batteries and turn on the key
switch.
5-5. STEERING MOTOR
5-5.1. Removal.
1. Turn off the key switch and disconnect the batter-
ies.
2. Remove the compartment covers as described in
paragraph 5-3.
3. Disconnect position switch from harness.
4. Remove position switch from the frame.
5. Disconnect harness from steering motor.
