Important Scanning Procedures—Restoration Acquisition
Scanning One Surface at a Time
• Start with the occlusal surface, beginning with the preparation area and then scanning the
surrounding teeth on the jaw.
• Next, scan the lingual surface, starting with the preparation area and then scanning the
surrounding teeth on the jaw.
• Scan the buccal surface, starting with the preparation area and then scanning the surrounding
teeth on the jaw.
• Finally, acquire the buccal bite registration.
Scanning Each Tooth Individually
• Scan one tooth at a time, following the occlusal/lingual/buccal, buccal/occlusal/lingual, or
lingual/occlusal/buccal scan path.
• Once the entire tooth is scanned, move to the next tooth and repeat the scanning process
until you have scanned all the teeth in the preparation area, as well as the surrounding teeth on
the jaw.
• Finally, acquire the buccal bite registration.

Scanning One Surface at a Time
• Start with the occlusal surface, and scan the teeth on the jaw.
• Next, scan the lingual surface of the teeth and soft-tissue areas. Be sure to include several
millimeters of gingival tissue in the lingual scan.
• Scan the buccal surface of the teeth, palate, and soft-tissue areas. Be sure to include several
millimeters of gingival tissue in the buccal scan.
• Finally, acquire the buccal bite registration.
Scanning Each Tooth Individually
• Scan one tooth at a time—following the occlusal/lingual/buccal, buccal/occlusal/lingual, or
lingual/occlusal/buccal scan path—and include the palate and soft-tissue areas. Be sure to
include several millimeters of gingival tissue in the lingual and buccal scans.
• Once the entire tooth and surrounding areas are scanned, move to the next tooth and repeat
the scanning process until you have scanned all the teeth, the palate, and the soft-tissue
areas. Be sure to include several millimeters of gingival tissue in the lingual and buccal scans.
• Finally, acquire the buccal bite registration.
