Routine Maintenance
Routine Maintenance
CEM suggests that you perform the routine maintenance procedures as outlined below. See the “Maintenance
Overview” section for quarterly, semiannual and as needed schedules.
A complete listing of spare and replacement parts with part numbers and images can be found on the CEM
website (www.cem.com).
WARNING
Proper precautions must be taken to avoid contact with acid or acid vapors. Personal
protective equipment (PPE) should be worn as outlined in the user’s safety program for
hazardous materials and the manufacturer’s safety data sheet. Refer to these guidelines for
proper handling and disposal.
Add Caps
The caps and septa are designed for single use and must be discarded after every run. An error message will
appear if the caps and septa are not added prior to sample digestion.
Caps and Septa must be purchased directly from CEM Corporation or through its authorized dealer network.
1. Ensure that the barcode scanner is connected to the BLADE.
2. Locate the box containing the cap and septa.
3. Press the System Menu icon in the top right corner of the display.
4. Press “Settings” and then press the Run tab.
5. Press the barcode icon.
6. Use the barcode scanner to scan the barcode on the cap and septa box or the numerical number located be-
neath the barcode can be manually entered.
7. Press “OK.” The cap count in the settings will increase by 250.
Clean Trap
1. Ensure instrument is off.
2. Place a beaker beneath the trap located at the back of th instrument. For HF applications, use a chemically
compatible container, such as those made from polyethylene or Teon.
3. Remove trap cover by twisting counter-clockwise. Any liquid present in the trap will drop into the beaker. Leave
the beaker in position during the remainder of the cleaning procedure.
