NFC (Near Field Communication)
An NFC tag is an unpowered microchip embedded to help simplify the Bluetooth pairing and
connecting process.
If your Bluetooth-enabled device (such as a smart phone or tablet) has NFC, be sure your device’s screen
is unlocked and has NFC turned on. Place the unit in Bluetooth mode by rotating the Source knob to the
Bluetooth icon and pressing the knob in briefly to select. Now place the backside of your smart device in the
vicinity of the NFC sticker atop the cabinet. You may need to move your smart device around the area of
the NFC sticker atop the cabinet for the NFC to connect depending on where the NFC tag is located inside
your smart device. Be careful not to scratch the surface of the wood cabinet. After the NFC connection is
established, follow the simple instructions on your smart device’s screen to Pair and Connect to Bluetooth
while your device is still on top of the NFC sticker. If your device fails to connect on the first attempt, wait a
minute and then try again. To disconnect from Bluetooth, place the backside of your smart device on the
NFC sticker again. After you’ve successfully paired a device to Bluetooth once, you should not have to use
NFC again unless to disconnect from Bluetooth.
Note: If your smart device, such as a smart phone, is enclosed in a cover, the cover may prevent the NFC
from working.
As of this writing, Apple devices do not support NFC for connecting to Bluetooth. If your device does
not support NFC, see Page 46 regarding how to pair and connect to Bluetooth.
Note: The NFC logo on the top of the cabinet is a removable sticker. Should you prefer to remove it for
a cleaner look, take care not to scratch the cabinet as you peel the sticker off.
aptX Audio
aptX has revolutionised the Bluetooth stereo listening experience by significantly reducing the bit rate
without affecting audio quality or introducing latency issues. Simply put, aptX provides outstanding Bluetooth
stereo audio quality that faithfully reproduces the full audio bandwidth. If your Bluetooth-enabled smart
device supports aptX audio, when in Bluetooth mode it will stream your music in CD-like sound quality. If
you are unsure whether your smart device supports aptX, consult the user guide for your device or query the
device’s manufacturer. When streaming in Bluetooth mode, press the Information (“i”) button on the remote
control several times, as aptX will usually be indicated in the codec information if it is present.
