There are two special command bytes that are sent back to the host com-
puter and allow it to see the status of the CU601C. The first command is:

003H RETURNS PROGRAM
STATUS
When this command is sent to the CU601C, it sends back active program
status in six ASCII strings separated by a line feed and a carriage return.
The program parameter "ACTIVE PARAMETER" listed below refers to
parameter in which the laser is operating at any given time. If there are 2
PU's with the laser, then "LAST PU" refers to PU2. "MODE" refers to
remote or local mode. The six strings are returned in the following for-
mat:

LAST PU 1 BYTE+CR+LF
MODE 1 BYTE+CR+LF
