PERFORMING IOL CALCULATIONS
NOTE: The calculated IOL powers are NOT to be interpreted as suggested or recommended
implant powers on the part of DGH Technology, Inc. The calculated IOL should be used as
a guideline only. It is based upon the accuracy of the IOL formula used and the data
entered. The nal IOL implant power selecon must be made by the surgeon, based on
personal experiences and previous post-operave results.
1. Select the Paent DataScreen and either enter a new paent or select an exisng
paent.
2. Select the A-ScanScreen tab and obtain A-Scan measurements for the paent. Refer to
the Performing A-Scans (Contact) or Performing A-Scans (Immersion) secons for
informaon on using the Scanmate soware for these procedures. Verify that the
informaon is correct and enter any missing Pre-Operave Data.
3. Select the Doctor that is performing the Lens Replacement Surgery using the drop down
box. The preferred IOLs and formulas will automacally be loaded for the selected Doctor.
4. If the Paent has previously undergone corneal refracve surgery, select the Post
Refracvecheckbox for the aected eye or for both eyes. This will automacally open the
Post Refracve Calculator. Refer to the Post Refracve Calculaons secon for more
informaon.
5. Select the measurement source. Choices include A-Scan average, A-Scan Single
Measurement and User Input. If user input is selected, complete the highlighted elds.
6. The Corneal Refracve Index (nc) of the keratometer used to calculate the corneal power
(K1 and K2) for the current paent should be entered in this eld. This eld will
automacally be completed with the default corneal refracve index (nc) set in System
Preferences, but it can be changed by the user on this screen.
WARNING: Failure to adjust the Default Keratometer Index (nc) to match the actual nc of
the keratometer used to measure the eye may result in errors in the IOL Calculaon .
7. If desired, modify the IOLs and formulas using the appropriate drop-down boxes. The
defaultlens constant for the selected IOL and formula will be shown underneath the
formula selecon box.
8. If desired, select the Personalized Constantcheckbox. This opon will only be available if
a personalized lens constant has been calculated for the currently selected Doctor and IOL.
When selected, the personalized lens constant will replace the default lens constant. Refer
to the Personalized Lens Constants secon for more informaon.
9. Once all necessary inputs are entered, the DGH Scanmate will perform IOL calculaons
using the selected formula for each of the six (6) selected IOLs on the screen. Any
necessary inputs for performing an IOL Power Calculaon that are either missing or out of
range are automacally highlighted in red.
10. Save the pre-operave data for the current paent and procedure by selecng the [SAVE]
icon.
