PERSONALIZED LENS CONSTANTS
WARNING: Only A-Scan measurements performed with the Scanmate Flex should be used
to calculate personalized lens constants.
WARNING: Only stabilized post operave results should be used to calculate personalized
lens constants.
WARNING: Corneal power measurements used for calculang personalized lens constants
should be performed using the same keratometer.
WARNING: Results for paents that have undergone corneal refracve surgery should not
be used to calculate personalized lens constants
1. Select the Paent DataScreen and either enter a new paent or select an exisng
paent.
NOTE: Ensure that the nc set in System Preferences matches the corneal refracve index of
the Keratometer used to measure the K values.
2. Select the A-ScanScreen tab and obtain A-Scan measurements for the paent. Refer to
the Performing A-Scans (Contact) or Performing A-Scans (Immersion) secons for
informaon on using the Scanmate soware for these procedures.
NOTE: DGH does not recommend mixing Contact and Immersion measurement results
when calculang personalized lens constants.
3. Select the IOL Calculator Screen and perform calculaons as described in the Performing
IOL Calculaons secon. Save the Pre-Operave Data used to perform the
calculaons by clicking the [SAVE] buon.
4. Perform the lens replacement surgery. Record the actual lens model and power that was
used.
5. Enter the Stabilized Post-Operaveresults in the IOL Calculator Screen. Review the Pre-
Operave data and Post-Operave Results and decide if the Procedure should be included
in the Personalized Lens Constant Calculaon. If the Procedure is a good candidate, select
the Add to Personalized Constants Tablecheckbox.
Selecon of consistent results is the most crical step in Calculang Personalized Lens
Constants. Personalized Lens Constants only compensate for consistent errors in predicng
the power of the implanted IOL. For this reason, all steps used to measure the paent,
calculate the IOL power and perform the lens replacement surgery should be performed as
idencally as possible. Ulmately it is up to the doctor to decide which results to use, but in
general the following guidelines should be observed:
- Do not include results where complicaons occurred during the procedure.
- Only include results where the same surgical technique was used.
- Do not include results from paents that have undergone refracve eye surgery.
- Only include results where the A-Scan measurement was performed using the same
technique, measurement mode (immersion or contact) and instrument.
- Only include results where the Corneal Power measurements were made with the same
instrument.
