PERSONALIZED LENS CONSTANTS
WARNING: Only A-Scan measurements performed with the Scanmate Flex should be used
to calculate personalized lens constants.
WARNING: Only stabilized post operave results should be used to calculate personalized
lens constants.
WARNING: Corneal power measurements used for calculang personalized lens constants
should be performed using the same keratometer.
WARNING: Results for paents that have undergone corneal refracve surgery should not
be used to calculate personalized lens constants
1. Select the “Paent Data” Screen and either enter a new paent or select an exisng
paent.
NOTE: Ensure that the nc set in System Preferences matches the corneal refracve index of
the Keratometer used to measure the K values.
2. Select the “A-Scan” Screen tab and obtain A-Scan measurements for the paent. Refer to
the Performing A-Scans (Contact) or Performing A-Scans (Immersion) secons for
informaon on using the Scanmate soware for these procedures.
NOTE: DGH does not recommend mixing Contact and Immersion measurement results
when calculang personalized lens constants.
3. Select the IOL Calculator Screen and perform calculaons as described in the Performing
IOL Calculaons secon. Save the Pre-Operave Data used to perform the
calculaons by clicking the [SAVE] buon.
4. Perform the lens replacement surgery. Record the actual lens model and power that was
used.
5. Enter the Stabilized “Post-Operave” results in the IOL Calculator Screen. Review the Pre-
Operave data and Post-Operave Results and decide if the Procedure should be included
in the Personalized Lens Constant Calculaon. If the Procedure is a good candidate, select
the “Add to Personalized Constants Table” checkbox.
Selecon of consistent results is the most crical step in Calculang Personalized Lens
Constants. Personalized Lens Constants only compensate for consistent errors in predicng
the power of the implanted IOL. For this reason, all steps used to measure the paent,
calculate the IOL power and perform the lens replacement surgery should be performed as
idencally as possible. Ulmately it is up to the doctor to decide which results to use, but in
general the following guidelines should be observed:
- Do not include results where complicaons occurred during the procedure.
- Only include results where the same surgical technique was used.
- Do not include results from paents that have undergone refracve eye surgery.
- Only include results where the A-Scan measurement was performed using the same
technique, measurement mode (immersion or contact) and instrument.
- Only include results where the Corneal Power measurements were made with the same
instrument.
