PERFORMING UBM SCANS
WARNING: Contact between the moving transducer element and the eye may result in
injury. When performing a UBM procedure, the user must visually gauge the distance of the
transducer to the cornea and ensure that a safe distance between the two is maintained at
all mes.
WARNING: The DGH1500 UBM probe must be used with a ClearScan® probe cover in
order to reduce the risk of paent to paent infecon, corneal injury (due to accidental
contact with the oscillang transducer) and potenal adverse biological responses.
WARNING: Before each procedure, the ultrasound probe and removable transducer must
be cleaned and disinfected. ClearScan® covers cannot be cleaned or reused. Refer to
the Cleaning and Disinfecon secon.
NOTE: The Pulse Power slider adjusts the amount of energy used to pulse the transducer.
Exams are typically performed at the highest Pulse Power unless the image is
saturated and beer denion between ssue structures is desired.
NOTE: The [SCAN] and [RECORD] buons can be congured to operate together or
independently. Refer to the B-Scan Page Preferences secon for more informaon.
1. Create a new paent or select an exisng paent on the Paent Screen.
2. Select the “B-Scan/UBM” screen tab. If necessary, click the [CHANGE EYE]† buon to
change the eye being scanned (OD or OS).
3. Select the desired probe, frequency and depth from the drop down boxes. Select the name
of the Operator performing the measurement. If desired, use the Posion Map to indicate
the area of the eye being examined.
NOTE: If the operator is not listed in the “Operator” drop-down box, add the new operator
by selecng Preferences > Operator and clicking the [NEW] buon.
4. Seat or recline the paent in a comfortable posion. Minimize head movement during the
exam. Posion the computer display so that it is easily visible during the examinaon.
5. Insert the probe into the ClearScan®. Refer to Page 20 for instrucons on Using Clearscan®
Covers To Perform UBM or Anterior Segment Examinaons.
6. To Start scanning†: - Click the [START SCAN] buon; or
- Press the Space Bar (keyboard); or
- Press the Foot Pedal (Single Pedal accessory); or
- Press the Le Foot Pedal (Double Pedal accessory).
7. Direct the paent to look in the desired direcon. It may be necessary to hold back the
paent’s eyelid or brow to properly expose the eye for scanning. Gently apply the
ClearScan® bag to the cornea.
