DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - INSTRUMENT
CLUSTER WARNING/INDICATOR LAMPS
Every time the vehicle is switched to the START/
RUN position, the cluster and gauge pack goes
through a BULB CHECK. This tests most of the
indicator lamps and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). If
any of the lamps fail to light during the bulb check,
refer to the proper Body Diagnostic Procedures man-
ual. The lamps are not replaceable except for the fog
lamp, high beam, left and right turn signal, engine
ISO symbol, and ABS indicators. None of these
though will illuminate during the bulb check at ini-
tial KEY ON.
To diagnose the cluster lamps place the cluster in
self-diagnostic mode (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/IN-
STRUMENT CLUSTER - STANDARD PROCEDURE
- SELF-DIAGNOSTICS).
STANDARD PROCEDURE
STANDARD PROCEDURE - ENHANCED SEAT
BELT REMINDER
The steps must be performed within the first sixty
seconds of the ignition switch being placed in the
RUN position.
(1) With the ignition switch not in the RUN posi-
tion (OFF), buckle the seat belt.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position
and wait for the seat belt lamp to extinguish (approx-
imately six seconds).
(3) Unbuckle and then re-buckle the seat belt
causing the lamp to go ON and OFF three or more
times ending with the belt buckled.
(4) Return the ignition switch to the OFF position
(the feature will toggle from its previous or current
status) and a confirmation chime will sound indicat-
ing to the customer that the proper sequence to
enable/disable the feature was performed.
STANDARD PROCEDURE - SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
To put the instrument cluster and gauge pack in
Self-Diagnostic Mode, press the trip reset button
down and then turn the ignition to the ON position
simultaneously, then release the button after two sec-
onds. The gauges will increment to selected stops and
all indicators will light, except for the turn signal
indicators. The engine ISO lamp will come on when
the ignition is turned ON and the engine is OFF.
Refer to the proper Body Diagnostic Procedures man-
ual if one or more indicators don’t light, or a gauge
does not appear to be functioning correctly.
NOTE: If any of the gauge pointers are stuck on the
wrong side of the pointer stop, perform the instru-
ment cluster self-diagnostic check (Refer to 8 -
ELECTRICAL/INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - STANDARD
PROCEDURE - SELF-DIAGNOSTICS). This will
“sweep” all the pointers to the correct side of the
pointer stop.
REMOVAL
Follow all Warnings for airbag component service
(Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/RESTRAINTS - WARN-
ING).
(1) Open deck lid.
(2) Remove four bolts to battery compartment
cover and remove cover.
(3) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable.
(4) Wait two minutes for the airbag system reserve
capacitor to discharge before beginning any airbag
system or instrument panel component service.
(5) Remove center console (Refer to 23 - BODY/IN-
TERIOR/CENTER CONSOLE - REMOVAL).
(6) Remove six screws and disconnect three electri-
cal connectors to instrument panel center bezel and
remove bezel from vehicle.
(7) Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755) or
equivalent, gently pry out on cluster bezel.
(8) Disconnect one electrical connector and remove
cluster bezel from vehicle.
(9) Remove four screws and two electrical connec-
tors to the instrument cluster and remove from
panel.
INSTALLATION
Follow all Warnings for airbag component service
(Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/RESTRAINTS - WARN-
ING).
(1) Install four screws and two electrical connec-
tors to the instrument cluster.
(2) Connect one electrical connector on cluster
bezel, place in position over retaining slots and
firmly snap into place.
(3) Connect one electrical connector to instrument
panel center bezel and install six screws to center
bezel.
(4) Install center console (Refer to 23 - BODY/IN-
TERIOR/CENTER CONSOLE - INSTALLATION).
(5) Connect the battery negative cable.
(6) Place battery access cover into place and install
four bolts.
(7) Close deck lid.
(8) Verify vehicle and system operation.
