Symptom:
LOW BEAM RELAY COIL OUTPUT OPEN/SHORT TO GROUND
POSSIBLE CAUSES
INTERMITTENT CONDITION
FUSE #6
HEADLAMP RELAY
HEADLAMP RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
HEADLAMP RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN
BODY CONTROL MODULE
TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 Turn the ignition on.
With the DRBIIIt, clear all Body Control Module DTC’s.
Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds then turn the ignition on.
With the DRBIIIt, read the current Body Control Module DTC’s.
Turn the Low Beam Headlamps ON.
Does the DRBIIIt display: HEADLAMP RELAY COIL OUTPUT OPEN/SHORT TO
GROUND?
All
Yes Go To 2
No The condition that caused this symptom is currently not present.
Inspect the related wiring harness for a possible intermittent
condition.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.
2 Turn the ignition off.
Check fuse #6 in the PDC.
Is the fuse open?
All
Yes Replace fuse 6 in the PDC.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.
No Go To 3
3 Turn the ignition off.
Remove the Headlamp Relay from the Power Distribution Center.
Substitute the original Headlamp Relay with a known good relay.
Turn the ignition on.
With the DRBIIIt, erase the current Body Control Module DTCs.
Turn the engine off, wait 10 seconds then turn the ignition on.
Turn the Low Beams ON.
With the DRBIIIt, read the current Body Control Module DTC’s.
Does the DRBIIIt display: Low Beam Relay Coil Output Open/Short To Ground?
All
Yes Go To 4
No Replace the original Head Lamp Relay.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.
