DESCRIPTION - WHEEL
The original equipment wheels used are designed
specifically for this vehicle. Two different wheels are
used, front and rear. Front wheels have an 18 inch
diameter and are 10 inches wide. Rear wheels have a
19 inch diameter and are 13 inches wide.
CAUTION: The front and rear wheels used on this
vehicle are not interchangeable. Do not attempt to
place the front wheels on the rear or vise-versa.
All the road wheels used on this vehicle are forged
and polished aluminum, one piece wheels. Each
wheel (Fig. 26) has raised sections between the rim
flanges and the rim well called safety humps.
Initial inflation of the tire forces the bead over
these raised sections. In case of tire failure the raised
sections help hold the tire in position on the wheel
until the vehicle can be brought to a safe stop.
The cast aluminum wheels used on this vehicle
require the use of special balance weights.
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - WHEEL
INSPECTION
The wheels should be inspected on a frequent
basis. Inspect the wheels for:
Air leaks
Broken welds
Cracks, dents or bends
Damaged bolt holes
Excessive runout
If any of the above conditions are present, the
wheel(s) must be replaced. Wheel repairs employing
hammering, heating, welding or the repairing of
leaks are not allowed.
To check wheel runout, (Refer to 22 - TIRES/
WHEELS - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING).
WARNING: FAILURE TO USE EQUIVALENT
REPLACEMENT WHEELS MAY ADVERSELY
AFFECT THE SAFETY AND HANDLING OF THE
VEHICLE. REPLACEMENT WITH USED WHEELS IS
NOT RECOMMENDED. THE SERVICE HISTORY OF
THE WHEEL MAY HAVE INCLUDED SEVERE TREAT-
MENT OR VERY HIGH MILEAGE. THE WHEEL
COULD FAIL WITHOUT WARNING.
