Connecting UTP Cables
TheRJ45copperconnectiontoanMGBIC‐02isa10/100/1000Mbpsconnectionwith
internalcrossovers.Whenconnectingaworkstationtooneoftheseports,useastraight‐
throughcable.Whenconnectingnetworkingdevicestotheseports,suchasabridge,
repeater,orrouter,useacrossovercable.
Toconnecttwisted
pairsegmentstotheswitch,refertoFigure 3‐14andproceedas
follows:
1. Ensurethatthedevicetobeconnectedattheotherendofthesegmentis
powered ON.
2. ConnectthetwistedpairsegmenttotheswitchbyinsertingtheRJ45connectoronthe
twistedpairsegmentintothedesiredRJ45port
(forexample,Port2).
Note: The MGBIC-02RJ45 ports support Category 5 Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)
cabling with an impedance between 85 and 111 ohms. Where new cabling is being
installed, it is recommended that Catagory 5e be installed. Category 3 cable may be used
if the connection is going to be used only for 10 Mbps.
