THE SOUNDS AND TRACKS
A Sound is assigned to each track of a Performance.
THE 4 REAL TIME TRACKS (UPPER 1, UPPER 2, LOWER & MANUAL BASS)
At all times the PK5 Oriental display shows the tracks of both the accompaniment
sections as well as the keyboard sections (unless the instrument is set to a mode which
deactivates one or more tracks).
The Real Time keyboard sections correspond to the Upper 1, Upper 2 and Lower tracks
(tracks 9, 8 and 7 respectively).
The Manual Bass track corresponds to the disconnected bass accompaniment of the
current Style which you can choose to play in real time (only when the sequencer is off).
SOUNDS & THE KEYBOARD MODE
The keyboard sounds and manual bass sound can be configured in several different ways
by means of the keyboard activators (LOWER, UPPER 2, UPPER 1 located to the right
of the display) and the Bass track selector (Function button F2). The Upper 1, Upper 2
and Lower selector buttons have their own LED indicators. The Manual bass track is
indicated by the letters “BAS” directly above the Bass track (in the space normally dedi-
cated to the Measure counter).
The configuration of the three keyboard activators also determines the keyboard mode:
FULL and SPLIT.
FULL MODE
Full Mode is operative when the Upper 1 and/or Upper 2 keyboard sections are active to
play over the whole keyboard range with the Lower section disabled. In this case, you
will be able to play with a single Sound, or with two or three layered Sounds across the
entire keyboard range, depending on the On/Off status of the Manual bass track.
If, therefore, you wish to play in Full mode, simply cancel the LOWER keyboard activa-
tor as well as the ARRANGE ON/OFF button.
This action automatically assigns one or both Upper sections as well as the manual bass
track to the entire keyboard extension.
When you play with Styles (the ARRANGE ON/OFF button selected), the accompani-
ment tracks recognise the current Split Point; the keyboard zone to the left of this point
corresponds to the LOWER section.
If the LOWER section is off, (LED off), the lower keyboard does not play.
SPLIT MODE
Split Mode corresponds to the situation when the keyboard is divided into two parts: left
and right. This allows you to play different sounds with the left and the right hand. The
left split plays the sound assigned to the LOWER section as well as the manual bass
sound (if on), while the right plays the sounds assigned to the UPPER 1 and/or UPPER 2
sections. The LOWER split range corresponds to the lowest note of the keyboard up to
and including the Split Point note. The RIGHT split starts from the note after the split
point note up to the highest note of the keyboard.
When you play in real time, you can divide the keyboard into to parts (split) simply by
pressing the LOWER button (LED on). This splits the keyboard and assigns the Lower
sound to the left keyboard area (including the manual bass track if on) and the Upper
sounds to the right.
