UIMs features unique to IBM provide ease of management in the following ways:
򐂰 Concurrent Firmware Update: UIM provides the ability to concurrently update all system
software in a virtualized environment with a single command with no application
performance or availability.
򐂰 Reliability, availability, serviceability (RAS): UIM provides the ability to manage and set
policies around all predictive failure analysis (PFA) in the system. It includes the ability to
evacuate all VMs off one host, migrate individual VMs, or manage VMs before an outage
affects them.
These features are discussed in further detail in the following section.
Concurrent firmware updates
Upward Integration Module (UIM) allows for concurrent firmware updates for ease of
management and deployment. The following procedure describes the procedure undertaken
by UIM to roll out firmware updates concurrently:
1. The user initiates an update (Figure 7-25).
