3.7 Processor options
The x3850 X6 and x3950 X6 servers use the Intel Xeon E7-4800 v2 or E7-8800 v2 processor,
formerly known by the code name “IvyBridge-EX”. The Intel Xeon E7-4800 v2 series
processors is available with up to 15 cores and 37.5 MB of last-level cache, and can form a
4-socket configuration. The Intel Xeon E7-8800 v2 series processors are also available with
up to 15 cores and 37.5 MB of last-level cache, but can be used both in 4-socket and
8-socket configurations.
Table 3-4 shows the processor options for the x3850 X6 and x3950 X6 servers, and which
server models have each processor standard. If there is no corresponding where-used model
for a particular processor, this processor is only available through CTO.
The processor options are shipped preinstalled in a Compute Book. All Compute Books in a
server must have the same processors.
