12.6.2 Installing the front wheel
Warning
Danger of accidentsReduced braking efficiency due to oil or grease on the brake discs.
Always keep the brake discs free of oil and grease, and clean them with brake cleaner when necessary.

Main work
Check the wheel bearing for damage and wear.
» If the wheel bearing is damaged or worn:
Replace the wheel bearing.
Clean and grease the shaft seal rings and bearing surface of the distance bush-
ings 1.
Long-life grease ( p. 208)
Insert the spacers.

Clean and grease the thread of the wheel spindle and screw 2.

Lift the front wheel into the fork, position it, and insert the wheel spindle. Mount
and tighten screw 2.
Guideline
Screw, front wheel spindle M24x1.5 45 Nm
(33.2 lbf ft)
Position the brake caliper and check that the brake linings are seated correctly.
Position spacers 3. Mount screws 4 but do not tighten.
Operate the hand brake lever repeatedly until the brake linings are in contact with
the brake disc and there is a pressure point. Fix the hand brake lever in the acti-
vated position.
The brake caliper straightens.
Fully tighten screws 4.

Screw, front brake caliper M10x1.25 45 Nm
(33.2 lbf ft)

Remove the fixation of the hand brake lever.

Take the motorcycle off of the front wheel stand. ( p. 11)
Pull the front wheel brake and push down hard on the fork several times to align
the fork legs.
Tighten screws 5.
Guideline
Screw, fork stub M8 15 Nm
(11.1 lbf ft)
Finishing work
Take the motorcycle off of the rear wheel stand. ( p. 10)
