16.1 Removing the engine
Preparatory work
– Switch off all power consumers and switch off the engine.
– Remove the seat. ( p. 59)
– Disconnect the battery. ( p. 79)
– Raise the motorcycle with the work stand. ( p. 11)
– Take off the side cover. ( p. 60)
– Remove the air filter box. ( p. 56)
– Remove the manifold. ( p. 52)
– Drain the coolant. ( p. 162)

Main work
– Loosen the spring band clamp 1 using the special tool. Detach the radiator hoses.

– Remove screws 2.

– Remove screws 3.
– Take off the engine sprocket cover.
– Remove screw 4.
– Take off the shift lever.

– Have an assistant operate the rear brake.
– Bend up the lock washer.
– Remove nut 5 with the lock washer.
– Remove screws 6.

– Remove nut 7. Remove the chain adjuster.
– Pull out the wheel spindle only far enough to allow the rear wheel to be pushed for-
ward.
– Push the rear wheel forward as far as possible and take the chain off the rear
sprocket.
