vNIC Bandwidth Metering
EnterpriseNOS8.4supportsbandwidthmeteringforvNICtraffic.Bydefault,each
ofthefourvNICsonanygivenportisallowedanequalshare(25%)ofNIC
capacitywhenenabled.However,youmayconfigurethepercentageofavailable
switchportbandwidthpermittedtoeachvNIC.
vNICbandwidthcanbeconfigured
asavaluefrom1to100,witheachunit
representing1%(or100Mbps)ofthe10Gbpslink.Bydefault,eachvNICsenabled
onaportisassigned25units(equalto25%ofthelink,or2.5Gbps).Whentraffic
fromtheswitchtothevNICreachesitsassignedbandwidthlimit,
theswitchwill
droppacketsegressingtotheaffectedvNIC.
Note: Bandwidthmeteringdropsexcesspacketswhenconfiguredlimitsare
reached.ConsiderusingtheETSfeatureinapplicationswherepacketlossisnot
desirable(see“EnhancedTransmissionSelection”onpage 352).
Tochangethebandwidthallocation,usethefollowingcommands:

aredisabledareautomaticallyallocatedabandwidthvalueof0.
Acombinedmaximumof100unitscanbeallocatedamongvNICpipesenabledfor
anyspecificport(bandwidthvaluesfordisabledpipesarenotcounted).Ifmore
than100unitsareassignedtoenab ledpipes,anerrorwillbereportedwhen
attemptingtoapplytheconfiguration.
Thebandwidthmeteringconfigurationisaut o matically synchronizedbetweenthe
switchandvNICsforregularEthernetandiSCSItraffic.Onceconfiguredonthe
switch,thereisnoneedto manuallyconfigurevNICbandwidthmeteringlimitson
theNIC.
Note: FCoEvNICdoesnotuseegressmetering.ETSand
PFCmustbeenabledto
ensurelosslesstransmissionforFCoEtraffic.ETSdoestrafficshaping.Youcan
configureaminimumbandwidthforeachtrafficclass.Forexample,40%forFCoE
priority3,60%fortheEthernettraffic.FCoEtrafficgets40%minimumguaranteed
bandwidth.IftheEthernettrafficonlyconsumes
30%bandwidth,thenFCoEtraffic
canuse70%.IfthereisnootherEthernettraffic,thenFCoEtrafficcanuse100%.
TheFCoEvNICcanuseupto100%ofthebandwidth,withaminimumgu aranteed
bandwidthof40%.
