Virtual Router Group
Thevirtualroutergrouptiesallvirtualroutersontheswitchtogetherasasingle
entity.Bydefinition,hot‐standbyrequiresthatallvirtualroutersfailoverasa
group,andnotindividually.Asmembersofagroup,allvirtualroutersonthe
switch(andthereforetheswitchitself),areineither
amasterorstandbystate.
Thevirtualroutergroupcannotbeusedforactive‐activeconfigurationsorany
otherconfigurationthatrequiresharedinterfaces.
AVRRPgrouphasthefollowingcharacteristics:
Whenenabled,allvirtualroutersbehaveasoneentity,andallgroupsettings
overrideanyindividualvirtualroutersettings.
Allindividualvirtualrouters,oncetheVRRPgroupisenabled,assumethe
group’strackingandpriority.
WhenonememberofaVRRPgroupfails,thepriorityofthegroupdecreases,
andthestateoftheentireswitchchangesfromMastertoStandby.
EachVRRPadvertisementcanincludeupto128addresses.Allvirtualroutersare
advertisedwithinthesamepacket,conservingprocessingandbufferingresources.
