Allocating Bandwidth
Allocated Bandwidth for PGID 0 Through 7
Theadministratormayallocateaportionoftheswitch’savailablebandwidthto
PGIDs0through7.Availablebandwidthisdefinedastheamountoflink
bandwidththatremainsafterprioritieswithinPGID15areserviced(see
“UnlimitedBandwidthforPGID15”onpage 319),andassu mingthatallPGIDs
arefully
subscribed.IfanyPGIDdoesnotfullyconsumeitsallocatedbandwidth,
theunusedportionismadeavailabletotheotherprioritygroups.
Prioritygroupbandwidthallocationcanbeconfiguredusingthefollowing
command:
wherebandwidthallocationrepresentsthepercentageoflinkbandwidth,specified
asanumberbetween0and100,in1%
increments.
Thefollowingbandwidthallocationrulesapply:
Bandwidthallocationmustbe0%foranyPGIDthathasnoassigned802.1ppri‐
orityvalues.
AnyPGIDassignedoneormorepriorityvaluesmusthaveabandwidthallocation
greaterthan0%.
Totalbandwidthallocationforgroups0through7mustequalexactly100%.
IncreasingorreducingthebandwidthallocationofanyPGIDalsorequires
adjustingtheallocationofotherPGIDstocompensate.
Iftheseconditionsarenotmet,theswitchwillreportanerrorwhenapplyingthe
configuration.
Note: Actualbandwidthusedby
anyspecificPGIDmayvaryfromconfigured
valuesbyupto10%oftheavailablebandwidthinaccordancewith802.1QazETS
standard.Forexample,asettingof10%maybeservedanywherefrom0%to20%
oftheavailablebandwidthatanygiventime.
Unlimited Bandwidth for PGID 15
PGID15ispermittedunlimitedbandwidthandisgenerallyintendedforcritical
traffic(suchasswitchmanagement).Trafficinthisgroupisgivenhighestpriority
andisservedbeforethetrafficinanyotherprioritygroup.
IfPGID15haslowtrafficlevels,mostoftheswitch’sbandwidthwillbeavailable
to
serveprioritygroups0through7.However,ifPGID15consumesalargerpartof
theswitch’stotalbandwidth,theamountavailabletotheothergroupsisreduced.
Note: ConsidertrafficloadwhenassigningpriorityvaluestoPGID15 .Heavy
trafficinthisgroupmayrestrictthebandwidthavailabletoother
groups.
