InstallingtheThinkServer8708EM2RAIDBattery
ThistopicprovidesinformationaboutinstallingtheThinkServer8708EM2RAIDBattery(hereafterreferredto
asthebatterycardassembly)ontheRAIDcard.ThebatterycardassemblymountsdirectlytotheRAIDcard
throughasmallboard-to-boardconnector(daughtercard).
Notes:
1.ThebatterycardassemblyprotectstheintegrityofthecacheddataontheRAIDcontrollerbyproviding
backuppowerupto72hoursinthecaseofacompleteacpowerfailureorabriefpoweroutage.It
hasbuilt-infunctionalitytochargethebatterypackautomaticallyandtocommunicatebatterystatus
informationsuchasvoltage,temperature,andcurrenttoyourserver.Italsoprovidesaninexpensive
alternativetousinganuninterruptiblepowersupply,andasecondleveloffaulttolerancewhenused
inconjunctionwithanuninterruptiblepowersupply.Formoreinformationaboutthebatterycard

.
2.Thebatterycardassemblyoptionkitcontainsauserguide,thebatterycardassembly,andthree
Phillips-headscrews.Donotremovethebatterycardassemblyfromtheantistaticshippingcontainer
untilyouarereadytoinstallit.Whenyouremovethebatterycardassemblyfromyourserver,placeitin
itsoriginalcontainer.
3.ChecktheappropriatesupportWebsitesforthelatestupdatesforyourbasicinput/outputsystem
(BIOS)code,utilityprograms,devicedrivers,andothersoftwareapplications.Followtheinstructions
providedbyyourServiceProvidertodownloadandinstallupdates.
4.Itisrecommendedthatyoureplacethebatterypackonthebatterycardassemblyannuallyorafter
500rechargingcycles,whichevercomesrst.
5.Thetemperatureofthebatterycardassemblyisgenerally15-20°C(59-68°F)higherthantheambient
temperatureduringfastcharge.Therefore,tocompleteafastchargecycle,theambienttemperature
shouldbelowerthan45°C(113°F).Iftheambienttemperatureexceeds45°C(113°F),thefastcharge
cyclewillterminateprematurely,thuspreventingthebatterycardassemblyfromreachingafully
chargedstate.
Attention:
•WhenattachingthebatterycardassemblytoaPCIExpressslot,centerthePhillips-headscrewdriverto
avoiddamagingthescrewheadanddonotover-tightenthescrewsasyoumightdamagethebattery
cardassembly.
•Thebatteryinthebatterycardassemblymustrechargeforatleastsixhoursduringfastchargeunder
normaloperatingconditions.
