(7). Allow battery to rest for minimum of 1
hour and maximum of 2 hours; adjust
electrolyte level per Battery Servicing
Procedure.
(8). If electrolyte level is adjusted, recon
nect battery to charger and allow
battery to continue charging for 30
minutes.
If battery temperature exceeds
room temperature during initial
charging, battery temperature must be al
lowed to decrease to room temperature be
fore charging second time.
(9). After allowing battery temperature to
decrease to room temperature, repeat
procedures described in steps (2). thru
(8). to cycle battery a second time.
NOTE: When making individual cell voltage
measurements the second time, voltage of
each individual cell must measure within
voltage limits specified in step (5). If voltage
of any individual cell does not measure
within specified voltage limits, cell must be
discarded. Replace defective cell according
to Battery Repair instructions.
(10). Switch charger off and then disconnect
battery from charger.
(11). Tighten cell filler vent caps.
7. Battery Inspection
(Ref. Figure 201)
(1). Ensure all electrical power is OFF.
(2). Remove attaching hardware and
battery from brackets and cover.
Prior to performing follow
ing operations; review Bat
tery Handling and Servicing Precau
tions.
(3). Inspect tops of cells for dust, dirt, white
powder or spewed electrolyte. (For
cleaning instructions refer to Battery
Cleaning.)
(4). Inspect receptacle bus strips, bus bars
and screws for security and evidence of
damage.
(5). Inspect cells for cracks, evidence of
overheating or other physical damage.
Inspect cell bus bars for acid contami
nation. Replace battery if any such
damage is detected.
Electrolyte level inspection
should be accomplished only
when battery has been fully charged and
then allowed to set for a period of 1 to 2
hours after charging. If helicopter has oper
ated for minimum of 1 hour or more of con
tinuous flight, battery may be considered
charged.
(6). Reinstall cover and secure with attach
ing hardware.
8. Battery Cleaning
(1). Check that master switch on instru
ment panel is OFF.
(2). Unlatch and raise pilot compartment
floor left access door; remove cover.
Use care to avoid damaging bat
tery temperature sensing wires
and switch connections during cleaning.
(3). Clean battery in accordance per
manufacturer's instructions (Ref. Sec.
01-00-00).
(4). Reinstall battery cover; lower and latch
floor access door.

line solution and is harmful
to skin and clothing. Wear protective
clothing that is used exclusively for
servicing nickel-cadmium batteries.
Neutralize and flush electrolyte from
skin or hands as described below.
