HEAVY DUTY BATTERY (17 AMP, 20 CELL)
INITIAL INSTALLATION
1. Heavy Duty Battery Initial Installation
Procedures in this section may be performed at
operator's discretion. These procedures provide
complete instructions for initial installation of
the 17 amp hr ni-cad battery in Model 369D
and 369E helicopters.
A. Preparation for Installation
Before installing the 17 amp hr battery,
complete the following preparations.
(1). Identify all components to be installed.
Inspect all parts and/ or assemblies for
damage that may have occurred in
shipment. Do not install damaged parts
or assemblies.
NOTE: The 17 amp hr ni-cad battery is
shipped discharged, with shorting straps in
stalled. The shorting straps must be re
moved and the battery charged before in
stallation in the helicopter.
(2). Remove shorting straps and perform
Battery Servicing Procedures (Ref. Sec.
96-05-00).
(3). Set all helicopter switches, including
BATTERY/OFF/EXT PWR switch, to
OFF and ensure that all circuit break
ers are open (pulled out).
(4). Remove pins from hinges of battery
compartment door and remove door
from helicopter. Reinsert pins in hinge
halves attached to helicopter structure
for use at installation of new compart
ment door. Removed door will not be
reinstalled.
(5). Disconnect battery connector (P108)
and remove battery from helicopter per
Battery Replacement (Ref. Sec.
96-05-00).
B. Inboard and Outboard Access Door
Support Modification
(Ref. Figure 901) The location of supports for
the battery compartment door, mounted on the
pilot's compartment floor doublers and
channels, which form the inboard and out
board sides of the battery compartment, must
be modified as follows:

(1). Drill out rivets attaching door support
clips to doublers and channels on
inboard and outboard sides of battery
compartment and remove clips. Clips
will not be reinstalled. Apply primer
(CM318) to holes and leave holes open.
(2). Remove collars and pins attaching
saddle to inboard doubler and channel
and remove saddle. Apply primer to
holes.
(3). With support part of saddle up, reposi
tion saddle on doubler, and mark hole
locations on doubler. Remove saddle.
(4). Using No. 20 drill, drill holes at two
locations marked in step (3). Deburr
holes and apply primer.
(5). Reposition saddle on doubler with
support portion of saddle up. Attach
saddle to doubler and channel using
two rivets (Ref. Figure 202).
(6). Repeat steps (2). thru (5). for saddle on
outboard doubler and channel.
