INTRODUCTION
The
MPI
Model 40
Series
diskette
storage
drives
represent
the
latest
evolutionary
development
in
the
8
inch
floppy
disk
product
family.
The Model
40
Series
brings
to
the
8
inch
market
the
latest
technology
enhancements
from
the
5
1/4
inch
marketplace
and
is
packaged
in
the
most
versatile
format
to
permit
special
customer
options
without
affecting
the
basic
mechanism
design.
There
are
four
versions
of
the
Model 40
Series
Disk
Drives.
They
are
the
41/42M
(2.0"
single
Slimline•),
41/42H
(2.3"
single
Slimline•),
41D/42D
(dual
Slimline•),
and
the
41S/42S
(Slimline•
drive
mounted
in
a
full-size,
industry
standard
compatable
bezel).
These
drives
are
illustrated
in
figures
1-1,
1-2,
and
1-3.
I NOTE
A
high
level
of
commonality
exists
between
the
41/42M,
41/42H,
41D/42D,
and
41S/42S
drives.
Therefore
the
following
descriptions
will
generally
apply
to
all
models.
Unique
features
of
each
model
will
be
identified
and
individually
described,
as
appropriate.
For
ease
of
explanation,
flexible
disk
drives
discussed
in
this
docuinentation
will
be
referred
to
as
the
Model 40
Series
unless
differentiation
is
necessary.
