3.2 MECHANICAL ASSEMBLIES
3.2.1
Drive Mechanism
The
drive
mechanism
consists
of
an
aluminum
chassis
and
a
glass
impregnated
plastic
frame.
Mounted on
the
chassis
is
a
spindle
and
motor
assembly
for
rotating
the
media;
a
stepper
motor/band
combination
for
positioning
the
magentic
head(s);
and
a
cone/
clutch
assembly
for
centering
and
holding
the
diskette
under
operation.
3.2.2 Door Mechanism
The
door
mechanism
consists
of
the
door
and
door
button
which mount
within·
the
bezel.
The
door
is
attached
to
two
door
arms which
are
spring
loaded
to
keep
the
door
in
an
open
position
when
unlatched.
Closing
the
door
will
cause
the
door
arms
to
contact
and
lower
the
clutch
arm;
and
partially
rotate
the
ejector
shaft
to
arm
the
ejector
release
mechanism.
3.2.3 Cone/Clutch
Assembly
The
cone/clutch,
which
is
attached
to
the
clutch
arm,
is
lowered
onto
the
spindle
hub
to
center
and clamp a
diskette
when
the
door
is
closed.
3.2.4 Ejector
Assembly
The
ejector
is
designed
to
partially
push
the
diskette
from
the
drive
when
the
door
is
opened
so
it
may
be
easily
handled
by
the
operator.
The
ejector
block
is
cocked
when
the
diskette
is
in-
stalled.
The
ejector
release
mechanism
is
armed when
the
door
is
closed
by
causing
the
ejector-spring-end
to
move
beneath
the
ejector
block.
When
the
door
is
opened,
the
spring-end
will
trigger
the
ejector
block
forcing
the
diskette
partially
from
the
drive.
3.2.5 Pressure
Pad
Assembly
The
pressure
pad
is
designed
to
keep
the
rotating
diskette
from
wobbling
prior
to
passing
over
the
read/write
head(s).
When
the
door
is
closed
the
ejector
shaft
will
rotate
causing
the
shaft
mounted
pressure
pad
adjustment
block
to
force
the
foam
rubber
pressure
pad
onto
the
diskette.
