VENTILATION
SYSTEM
Your Oldsmobile has a ventilation system
that provides ventilation comfort
by
adding air outlet vents in the rear body
lock pillars. Another feature of the system
is continuous
low
-speed
operation of the
heater and air conditioner blower. This
results in a steady flow of outside air into
the
car
whenever the ignition switch
is
in
"RUN" (except, in some cases, under cold
temperature conditions).
With
the
side
windows closed, outside air
will
flow
into the front grilles, through the
car, and out the rear air exhaust
valves.
Basic
Operating Tips:
Always
keep front inlet grilles clear
of
obstructions (leaves, ice, snow, etc.).
Always keep underseat air path clear
of
objects.
When
heating or air conditioning
is
deSired, best comfort
is
attained
by
driving with
all
windows closed.
The following sections
of
this manual
provide more operating tips for getting
maximum heating and cooling comfort.
(See
also
Engine Exhaust
Gas
Caution at
beginning of this Section.) ·
VENTILATION
WITHOUT
AIR CONDITIONING-Outside
air may be admitted
to
the passenger
compartment through outlets
in
the
instrument
panel. For upper
level
ventilation, pull out on the center vent
control knob located in the center
of
the
lower instrument panel. The
vent
knobs for
the
side
panels under the ends of the
31
instrument panel control the lower
level
ventilation. Both upper and lower
level
ventilation
may
be
obtained
simultaneously or separately.
HEATING
AND
DEFROSTING
WImOUT
AIR CONDITIONING-Two
levers, for air (upper) and temperature
(lower), located in the heater control panel
in the lower center instrument cluster to
the right of the steering column, provide
maximum regulation and distribution
of
heated air in the passenger compartment.
FOR HEATING- The air control lever
must be moved
to
"HEA TER." The
temperature control increases the degree
of
heat
as
it
is
moved
to
the right.
FOR DEFROSTING-
Move
the
air control
lever
to
"DEF."
When
the air control
lever
is
at
the
extreme right position, about
90%
of
the air will
flow
through the defroster
outlets and
10%
to the passenger compart-
ment through the heater outlets.
