Oldsmobile's
Tempmatic
automatic
temperature control system (optional)
gives
more precise control
of
the inside
car
temperature.
It
regulates the temperature
of incoming
air
to satisfy the temperature
selected with the lower
lever
of
the
control. Blower speed and air outlet
selection
can
be
made
by
using
the blower
switch.
and upper
lever
of
the control.
AIR
OUTLETS-Air
is
directed through
combinations
of
the heater floor vents, the
adjustable outlets
of
the instrument panel,
and the defroster vents at the base of the
windshield. Each instrument panel outlet
can
be adjusted to divert air throughout
the
car
and air
flow
can
be
reduced
by
closing
the outlet.
Side
window defogging
is
provided by
aiming
the air
flow
toward
the
side
windows. Maximum air may be
provided to the
side
windows by
closing
the center and lower instrument panel
outlets.

CONTROLS-The
Tempmatic
air
conditioner control panel
is
located
on
the
lower
center instrument panel to the right
of
the steering column.
It
consists
of
a
blower switch and two sliding levers. The
upper
lever
selects the source
of
air
and the
lower
lever
the temperature of the air.
NORMAL OPERATION-Set the fan
switch at one of the two lower positions
for quiet operation, and to minimize
excessive
heating or cooling during initial
operation
of
the system. Set the upper
lever
for the
season
and the lower
lever
at
7s
o
p (24°C).
During extremely cold or hot weather,
use
the upper fan positions to heat or cool the
car
quickly, then reduce the fan speed.
''OFF''-Outside air
is
directed through the
heater outlets.
"AIR COND":
• "MAX" -Used
for quick cooling or
during
hot
humid
weather.
It
recirculates up to
80%
of
the
car
interior
air
for maximum cooling.
• "NORM"-Provides
100%
outside air
which
is
automatically temperature
controlled by the lower
lever
setting.
Adjust the blower speed to meet air
flow
requirement
s.
• "BI-LEVEL"-Air
is
delivered through
the
instrument panel, heater and
defroster outlets at the temperature
selected with the lower lever. Any
blower speed may
be
used.
"ECONOMY":
•
"VENT"
-Outside air is directed
through the instrument panel openings.
The
temperature
is
automatically
controlled to the setting
of
the lower
lever. Any blower speed may be used.
Since
the compressor does not operate
in
"VENT", set the temperature
lever
5°
cooler than the usual temperature
selection.
• "HEATER"-Heated air, which is auto-
matically temperature controlled,
is
directed into the car,
of
which
90%
is
through the heater vents
and
10%
through the defroster wnts. Select a
blower
speed
to meet air
flow
require-
ments.
