information on inspecting and maintaining
the engine,
exhaust system, and other
components.
2.
Do
not
park your
car
over combustible
materials, such
as
grass
or
leaves.
They
could touch the hot exhaust system and
ignite.
3.
Do
not
push or tow this ,
car
to
start it.
Under some conditions, this may
damage
the converter.
DISREGARD
OF
THESE WARNINGS
COULD
DAMAGE THE CATALYTIC
CON-
VERTER, THE CAR, OR
NEARBY
PROP-
ERTY.
CIRCUIT
BREAKERS
The headlight wiring
is
protected
by
a
circuit breaker in the light switch.
An
electrical overload will
cause
the lights
to
go
on and off, or in
some
cases
to
remain
off.
If
this happens,
have
your wiring
circuits
checked
right away. The
68
windshield wiper motor
is
also protected
by
a circuit breaker,
as
well
as
a fuse.
If
the
motor overheats,
due
to
overloading caused
by heavy snow, etc., the wipers
will
remain
stopped until the motor cools.
He
sure
to
ha
ve the
cause
of the overloading
corrected.
CLEANING
OF
TAPE
PLAYER
After each 100 hours of use, or
if
tape
slips
and runs slowly, the capstan (revolving
metal post), pickup head and tape guide
should
be
cleaned with a cotton-tipped
swab
dipped in rubbing alcohol.
Do
NOT
use
carbon
~etrachloride.
CLUTCH
PEDAL
ADJUSTMENTS
On cars with manual transmissions, the
clutch pedal should be adjusted from time
to time
so
that
it
has free travel before the
clutch actually begins to disengage. The
pressure
of
one finger should be enough
to
push the pedal
in
about
3/4
inch
to
1 inch
before resistance of the clutch springs
is
felt.
If
there
is
little or no "pedal lash," the
clutch
may
be slipping. This will cause it
to
wear faster.
If
there
is
too much "pedal
lash,"
the clutch may not disengage
completely, causing
gear
shifting trouble.
When
"pedal lash"
is
less than 1/2 inch or
more than 1-1/4 inch, an adjustment
should be made by your Oldsmobile dealer.
CHASSIS
&
BODY
LUBRICATION
At
every
engine
oil change, the
transmission and Cruise Control linkage,
hood hinges, stops and latches should be
lubricated. The following points, requiring
body lubrication, should also be checked
and lubricated every engine oil change:
hinges on all doors, fuel filler door, trunk
lid, door lock striker, liftgate torque rods
and hold open support contact areas, and
door jamb switches.
NOTICE: .
If
you
must use any lifting device
other than the original equipment.jack,such
as
a hydraulic,
scissors
or floor jack, or a
service
station
or
dealer hoist, be certain
lift
pads do
not
contact the catalytic converter
as
.
damage
to converter may result.
DIFFERENTIAL
STANDARD-Every
12
months or 7,500
miles
(12000
kilometres), whichever
occurs first, check lubricant level. Add
lubricant,
if
necessary,
to
fill
to
level of
filler plug hole.
Use
SAE
80W
GL-5
or
SAE
80W-90
GL-5
gear
lubricant. For those cars
driven
in
Canada,
use
SAE
80W
GL-5
gear
lubricant.
Change
lubricant every 15,000
