brakes, and electrical systems. In total,
there are 16
NIASE skills: These cover
eight
mechanical passenger car, six
mechanical truck and two body areas.
How are mechanics certified?
Mechanics volunteer to take tough written
exams to test their knowledge. These tests
were developed and are offered
by
the
Educational Testing
Service of Princeton,
New Jersey. (These are the
same
people
who administer college exams and other
large
scale
testing programs.)
In
addition,
at least two years
of
on-the-job experience
as a mechanic are needed to become
certified.
How
do
I know a mechanic
is
certified?
NIASE awards certificates and pocket
cards. These show the areas in which the
mechanic has been certified. The mechanic
is
also entitled to wear the authorized
shoulder patch.

FUEL
REQUIREMENTS
Your engine
is
designed to
use
only
unleaded gasoline. Unleaded gasoline must
be used for proper emission control system
operation. Its
use
will also minimize spark
plug fouling. The
use
of
leaded gasoline can
damage the emission control system and
could result in loss
of
warranty coverage.
Use
unleaded gasoline meeting Federal
government regulations. The Federal
government specifies the minimum octane
number
of
unleaded gasoline. Federal
regulations require that pumps delivering
such gasoline be labeled with the word
UNLEADED.
Only these pumps are
equipped with delivery nozzles which fit
the
fllier neck
of
your car's gasoline tank.

It
helps protect your investment. On all series except station wagons, it is

holder.
On station wagons, it is located on
the left rear fender.
FUEL TANK FILLER
TUBE-To
help
prevent refueling with leaded gasoline, the
fuel filler tube has a built-in restrictor and
deflector. The opening in the restrictor will
only accommodate the smaller unleaded
fuel nozzle spout. The spout must be fully
inserted
to
bypass the
gas
deflector. Trying
to refuel with a leaded fuel pump nozzle or
failing to fully insert the unleaded fuel
nozzle spout can result in gasoline
splashing back out
of
the filler tube.
GAS CAP-The fuel tank filler tube has a
screw-on cap. The cap has an extended
threaded area on one end; it is designed
to
release any remaining
gas
tank pressure
while the cap
is
being removed. A built-in
