should be paired on the
same
axle with the
least worn tire
of
the other three.
On most vehicles originally equipped with
radial tires, you will find a
TPC
Spec. No.
(fire
Performance Criteria Specification
Number) molded into the tire sidewall near
the tire
size
marking. This shows that the
tire meets rigid
size
and performance
standards which were developed for your
Oldsmobile. The
TPC
Spec. No. assures a
proper
combination
of
endurance,
handling,
noise, ride, and traction
properties.
When
you replace your tires
with tires having the
same
TPC
Spec. No.,
your new tires will be compatible with
your
Oldsmobile.
WHEEL REPLACEMENT CONSIDER·
ATIONS-
Wheels
must be replaced
if
they
become damaged (for example: bent,
heavily rusted, leak air) or
if
wheel nuts
often become loose. Do not straighten bent
wheels or
use
inner tubes in leaking wheels.
Such wheels may have structural damage
and could fail without warning.
When
replacing wheels for
any
reason, the new
wheels should be equivalent in load limit,
diameter, width, offset and mounting con·
fIgurations
to
those originally installed on
your
car.
Replacement wheels
can
be
obtained from your Oldsmobile dealer.
A wheel
of
the wrong
size
or type may
adversely affect wheel and bearing life ,
brake
cooling, speedometer/odometer
calibration, stopping ability, headlight aim,
bumper height,
vehicle
ground clearance,
and tire or
snow
chain clearance to the
body and chassis . . Replacement with
"used" wheels is not advised; they may
have
been subjected to harsh treatment or
very high
mileage
and could fail without
warning.
WARRANTY-Tires are warranted by the
tire manufacturers. Warranty information
is
included in the manufacturer's warranty
folder furnished with your car.
WHEEL
BEARING
LUBRICATION
Clean, inspect and repack the front wheel
bearings at the intervals shown in the
Maintenance Schedule folder.
Be
sure to
thoroughly clean bearings and hubs
of
all
old lubricant before repacking.
Use
a
premium high melting point lubricant such
as GM·lOS1344.
NOTICE: "Long fibre" or "viscous" type
lubricant should not be used nor lubricants
mixed. The tapered roller bearings have a
slightly loose feel when properly adjusted.
They
must NEVER be over-tightened
(preloaded) or
severe
bearing damage will
result_ Consult your Oldsmobile dealer for
proper detailed procedures.
WINOSHIELD
WIPER
BLADES
The accumulation
of
salt, road grime, and
other foreign materials
on
the wiping
element
of
the wiper blade assembly can
result
in
unsatisfactory wiping action.
When
the effects
of
this accumulation are
noted, the wiping element should be
cleaned
using
a wet sponge
or
cloth and a
mild detergent. The presence
of
road film
on the windshield can nullify the effect
of
proper
wiper
blade
maintenance.
Therefore, whenever hazing or smearing
starts
to
occur, clean the windshield with a
mild non-abrasive type cleaner.
