maximum cooling at the blower speed set
by
the
fan
switch. To receive
100%
outside
air through the air conditioner and heater
outlets,
use
"BI-LEVEL." The temperature
of
the dehumidified air can be controlled
in all
"AIR COND" positions except
"MAX."
FOR DEFOGGING- To quickly defog the
inside
of
the windshield, move the
top
lever to
"DEF"
and the blower switch
to
"HI." This will direct 90%
of
the air flow
through the defroster vents and
10%
through the heater outlet. With the
top
lever in ''BI-LEVEL,''
100%
outside air
is
introduced through the heater and air
conditioner outlets. For
side
window
defogging, aim the air from the outboard
instrument panel outlets toward the
side
windows. The center and lower instrument
panel outlets may be closed
to
provide
more air to the
side
windows.
When
the
outside temperature
is above freeZing, the
air conditioner compressor comes on
auto-
matically to dehumidity the air for
improved defogging.
FOR
ECONOMY
~With
the
top
lever in
"OFF"
or "ECONOMY" (''VENT'' and
"HEATER"), the air conditioner com-
pressor does not operate and the reduced
engine load can result in improved fuel
economy. Use
"VENT"
in
mild temper-
atures (30
0
to
70
0
F,
_10
to
21
0
C)
when
cooling requirements are not great. and
"HEATER" for most heating requirements
to
maximize fuel economy.
If
comfort is
not maintained, or
if
windows tend
to
fog,
return
the
top
lever
to
"NORM," ''BI-
LEVEL," or
''OEF.''
NOTICE: The
air
conditioner compressor
will
operate
in
"MAX",
"NORM",
''BI·LEVEL''
and "DEF" when the outside
temperature
is
above freezing. Keep the
car
windows closed for best operation
of
the
air
conditioner and heater systems.
FOR VENTILATING-With the top lever
in
"VENT", 1
00%
outside air enters the
car
through the air conditioner outlets.
Heat may be added
to
the vent air
by
adjusting the
bottom
lever. Any
of
the
four
blower speeds may be used.
"
FOR
HEA
TING~Move
the
top
lever
to
"HEATER"
to
bring heated air into the
car,
of
which 90% is through the heater
outlet and
10%
through the defroster
vents. The
bottom
lever should be
positioned for the desired air temperature
and the blower switch moved for
the
proper air flow.
FOR
DEFROSTING-Moving the
top
lever
to
''OEF''
brings
100%
outside air into the
car
of
which 90%
is
through the defroster
outlets and
10%
through
the
heater outlet.
Adjusting
the
bottom
lever
gives
the
desired temperature and setting the blower
switch speed produces the right air volume.
The
air conditioner compressor engages
automatically at outside temperatures
above freezing.
TO TURN SYSTEM OFF -Move the
top
lever
to
"OFF".
The blower will continue
to operate at low speed whenever the
ignition
is
in "RUN", bringing outside air
into the car through the heater outlet.
NOTICE:
During some
A/C
operating
ronditions, slight increases and decreases
of
engine speed/power moy be noticed. This
characteristic should
be
considered normal,
as
the system
is
designed to cycle the
compressor
"on and
off"
to maintain desired
roo
ling.
The reduced compressor operation
should benefit fuel economy.
