as fast. Bring idle
back
to
normal after
two or three minutes .
Lift the engine
hood.
Check the level
of
the coolant
by
looking at the "see
through"
coolant recovery tank.
(It
is
not
necessary
to
remove the radiator cap
to
check coolant level, and it can
be
dangerous if
the
engine
is
still
hot.
See
the following Caution.) The proper
coolant level when
the
engine is oper-
atingis
2
to
3 inches (50
to
75 milli-
metres) above the
"FULL
COlD"
mark
on
the
tank.
CAUTION: To help avoid
the
danger
of
being burned, do
not
remove radiator
cap while
the
engine and radiator are
still
hot.
Scalding fluid
and
steam win
be blown
out
under pressure
if
the
cap
is
taken
off
too
soon.
If
coolant level is low:
- Check for fluid leaks at hose con-
nections
or
from radiator or pump.
Check
to
see
that
drive · belts are
intact and
that
the fan is turning.
- Add coolant
at
the first opportunity.
Coolant should be added only
to
the
recovery
tank.
(See "Service
and
Maintenance" section for details.)
If
you are losing coolant because
of
leaks, or a fan belt is broken or loose
and/or
the
red light persists (or
gage
needle
is
still in warning zone), stop the
engine until the cause
of
overheating is
corrected.
After the red light is out
(or
the needle
is
out
of
the
warning zone), resume
driving
at
a reduCed speed.
If
the light
does not come back
on
in about
ten
minutes, return
to
normal driving.
JACKING
CAUTION:
In
order
to
reduce
the
chance
of
personal injury:
1.
Follow
jacking
and
stowage
instructions.
2. Use jack only when changing wheels.
3. Never get beneath
the
car when using
jack.
STATION WAGON
4. Do not start or
run
engine while the
car is
on
the
jack.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Park on a level surface and set parking
brake firmly.
Set automatic transmission in "PARK"
(manual transmission in "Reverse").
Turn on hazard warning flasher.
Block
both
the front and rear
of
the
wheel diagonally opposite the jack.
Take the spare wheel and tire,jack,jack .
base and jack handle/wheel nut wrench
from the trunk (or storage compartment
on wagons).
Remove wheel discs
or
hub caps using
the flat end
of
the jack handle.
