FREEDOM
BATTERY
Your new
car
is
equipped with a Delco
FREEOOM Battery.
It
needs no periodic
maintenance. Its top
is permanently sealed
and has no
filler caps,
so
water will
never
have
to be added. The test indicator on the
top
of
the battery provides information for
testing purposes only. For full power
needs, a Delco battery
is
recommended
at
replacement time.
CONVENTIONAL
BATTERY
If
you have replaced the
FREEDOM
battery with a conventional battery, its
care
is simple
but
important.
1.
Check the fluid level in each
cell
monthly.
If
low, add colorless, odorless
drinking water or distilled water as
needed
to
bring level
to
split
ring
at
bottom
of
cell fIller well. Do not
overfill.
2. Keep your battery, battery cable
terminals
and battery hold-down
bracket clean.
Cleaning should be done
every
12
months.
Use
a brush, and clean
with ammonia and water or baking soda
and water. Flush off with clear water.
LEVEL
TOO
LOW
AT CORRECT
LEVEL
For full power needs, a Delco battery
is
recommended at replacement time.
CA
UTION: Follow the precautions
listed in the Jump Starting Caution (see
the
"In
Case
of
Emergency" section
of
this manual) when working on or near
the battery. Personal injury (particularly
to
eyes) or property damage may result
from battery explosion, battery acid, or
electrical (short circuit) hurns.
CATALYTIC
CONVERTER
The catalytic converter is an emmission
control device added
to
the exhaust system
to
reduce exhaust gas pollutants. The
converter contains a ceramic material
cooted with noble metal catalysts. The
catalytic converter allows the engine
to
be
tuned for improved fuel economy and
driveability.
The catalytic converter requires the
use
of
unleaded gasoline.
Unleaded gasoline
is
used
to
reduce combustion chamber
deposits, exhaust system corrosion and
to
prevent lead contamination of the catalyst.
Use
of leaded gasoline will cause the
converter
to
lose its effectiveness for
emission control.
NOTICE:
1.
Keep your engine properly tuned. Engine
rna
lfunctions involving the electriazl,
azrburetion
or ignition
f{)Istems
may result
in
unusually
high
converter and exhaust
f{)Istem
temperatures.
Do
not continue to
drive your
car
if
you detect engine misfire,
notici!4ble loss
of
Performance,or other
unusual operating conditions.
Insti!4d,
have it serviced promptly. A properly
tuned engine
will help avoid malfUnctions
that could
damage
the converter.
It
wJ7l
also
help maintain good emission control
and
gasoline
economy.
