Do not
use
hot water
orwash
in the direct
rays
of
the sun. Do not
use
strong soap or
chemical detergents. All cleaning agents
should be promptly flushed from
the
surface and not allowed to dry on the
finish.
WAXING
AND
POLISHING
Polishing
is
recommended to remove
accumulated residue and eliminate any
"weathered" appearance. Your Oldsmobile
dealer offers several polishes and cleaners
which have proven value in maintaining
original finish appearance and durability.
BRIGHT
METAL
PARTS
Bright metal parts should be cleaned
regularly to keep their luster.
Washing
with
water is all that
is
usually needed.
However,
GM
Chrome Polish may be used
on
CHROME
or STAINLESS STEEL trim,
if
necessary.
Use
special care with
ALUMINUM
trim.
Never
use
auto or chrome polish, steam or
caustic soap
to
clean aluminum. A coating
of
wax, rubbed
to
a high polish, is
recommended for all bright metal parts.
EXTERIOR
GLASS
Never wipe
glass
with dry paper
or
cloth or
operate the wipers when
the
glass
is
dry.
Dirt and insects can
be
removed with clear
water
or
a mild liquid household cleaner.
You should not
use
harsh abrasives.
Now
and then, inspect (and replace, if needed)
wiper blades to help reduce the possibility
of
scratching the windshield and
to
help
assure clear vision.
CLEANING
WHITE
SIDEWALL
TIRES
Use
GM
White
Sidewall Tire Cleaner or a
tire cleaner that will not harm aluminum
trim. A stiff brush may be used with the
cleaner.
VINYL
COVERED
TOPS
The
top
should be washed frequently with
neutral soap suds, lukewarm water and a
brush with soft bristles. Rinse
top
with
plenty
of
clear water to remove all traces
of
soap.
If
the top needs additional cleaning,a mild
foaming cleanser, such
as
GM
Muhi-
Purpose Powdered Cleaner, can be used.
(Do not
use
volatile cleaners or household
bleaching agents on the top.) Rinse the
top
with water; then, on an area
of
about two
square feet
(0.2 m
2
),
apply a mildfoaming
cfeanser. Scrub area with a soft bristle
brush, adding water as necessary until the
cleanser foams
to
a soapy consistency.
Wipe
off cleanser with a cloth
or
sponge.
Apply more cleanser to the area and scrub
until the
top
is
clean. To avoid streaking,
keep the cleanser' from running onto the
body fInish. Rinse top with plenty
of
clear
water
to
remove all traces
of
cleanser.
UNDERCOATING
If
you have your
car
undercoated, you
should not let the undercoating get on any
moving parts.
It
should also be kept off air
conditioner fittings and lines, body
drainholes, and exhaust system.
FOREIGNMATERIAL
DEPOSITS
Calcium chloride and other salts, ice
melting agents, road oil and tar, tree sap,
bird droppings, chemicals from industrial
chimneys and other foreign matter may
damage car finishes if allowed
to
remain
on
pamted surfaces. Prompt washing may not
completely remove all of these deposits.
Additional cleaners may be needed.
