174 CHAPTER NINETEEN
Probe care
Probe care
19.2.1 Disassembling the probe
First, unplug the probe from the instrument. Remove the tip and then the
lid (g. 1). Remove the coupler tubes by pushing the end of the tubes
down onto a hard surface (g. 2). Pull out the tubes by gripping them (g.
3). Never remove them by pulling on the cable. Finally, pull the coupler
tubes away from the probe (g. 4).
19.2.2 Reassembling the probe
Fit the new coupler tubes to the probe assembly (g. 1). Fit the outer shell
(gs. 2 and 3), followed by the lid (g. 4). Click the lid into place using rm
nger pressure only. Finally, t a new tip (g. 4).
Illustrations show TPC (TEOAE) coupler tubes.
Notes:
Fit a new tip for each test.
Check that the coupler tubes are not contaminated before
tting the tip.
If the coupler tubes are contaminated, replace them. We
recommend tting new coupler tubes at regular intervals
(approx every 20-40 tests) as a preventive measure.
Perform weekly probe QA tests (see chapter
17 Quality
checks).
