Operation
Crash caused by brake failure
Oil or lubricant on the brake disc in a disc brake or on
the rim of a rim brake can cause the brake to fail
completely. This may cause a crash with serious
injuries as a consequence.
Never allow oil or lubricant to come into contact with
the brake disc or brake linings or on the rim of a rim
brake.
If the brake linings have come into contact with oil
or lubricant, contact a dealer or a workshop to have
the components cleaned or replaced.
If the brakes are applied continuously for a long time
(e.g. while riding downhill for a long time), the fluid in
the brake system may heat up. This may create a
vapour bubble. This will cause air bubbles or any water
contained in the brake system to expand. This may
suddenly make the lever travel wider. This may cause
a crash with serious injuries.
Release the brake regularly when riding downhill for
a longer period of time.
Crash caused by wet conditions
The tyres may slip on wet roads. In wet conditions you
must also expect a longer braking distance. The
braking sensation differs from the usual sensation.
This can cause loss of control or a crash, which may
result in injuries.
Ride slowly and brake in good time.
