Electronic Shutter (ES)
67XF Camera System Manual |
Enabling the Electronic Shutter
on the IQ3 Digital Back
Using Electronic Shutter (ES)
without the XF Camera Body
When using the Electronic Shutter on the IQ3 100MP Trichromatic, IQ3 100MP
or IQ3 100MP Acromatic Digital Back with, for instance, a Technical Camera
instead of the XF Camera Body, you control the shutter speed and other
exposure settings via the Camera Controls on the IQ3 touch screen. You first
need to make sure that the Electronic Shutter is enabled on the Digital Back
by selecting Menu > Camera > Electronic shutter > On. You then activate the
Camera Controls by either pressing the ES icon on the touch screen, or by
pressing the bottom right button.
Capturing with a remote release is also possible. Please ask your Phase One
partner for an IQ3 100MP Electronic Shutter (ES) Cable Release Adaptor (P/N:
73174).
Setting the Exposure
Using the Camera Controls is straightforward - simply touch the shutter speed
or ISO values to change them. Note that since the aperture is set on the
technical camera lens, you will need to enter the used aperture value in order
for it to be written correctly into the metadata of the image. You set the white
balance by tapping the White Balance icon. You also have the option of
enabling Live View by tapping the icon in Camera Controls. Once you are all
set, just press the shutter button to start the exposure.
Self Timer Delay
It is possible to specify a delay from when the shutter button on the screen is
pressed until the image capture begins. Just tap the Self Timer Delay icon and
choose the desired value. The delay is then displayed on the shutter button.
Once you press the shutter button, a countdown will appear until the image
capture begins.
Enable Antiflickering
When using the Electronic Shutter, there are certain shutter speed values that
do not work well with light sources flickering at either 50Hz or 60Hz. The IQ3
can determine which shutter speeds are problematic, and automatically
choose the nearest value that works with the current frequency. You can
enable this feature by tapping the Antiflickering icon. A blue dot will be shown
when it is enabled.
Please note that Antiflickering will not be in aect if you are using P or Av
mode on the XF Camera.
Recording a Black Frame Calibration
Recording a black frame calibration cannot be done fully automatically when
the IQ Digital Back is mounted on a technical camera, since the IQ has no way
of determining whether light is hitting the sensor or not. So when a black
frame calibration is needed, the IQ will prompt you to put on a lens cap during
the black frame calibration capture. .
Black Frame Calibration options
You can choose between three dierent settings for the black frame
calibration. This is done by tapping on the Black Frame Calibration icon and
then cycling through the three options. You can choose between:
1. Normal. The IQ3 initiates a black frame calibration whenever needed. This
will happen when you change the shutter speed or ISO, or a certain
amount of time has passed since the last capture. This is the default
setting.
2. Always. The IQ3 will always make a black frame calibration between each
capture. This option is shown with a blue dot on the icon.
3. Suppress. The IQ3 will not make a new black frame calibration if
the Digital Back determines that a change to the exposure is minimal and
will not impact the image quality notably. This option is shown with a red
cross over the icon.
