APPENDIX A
OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR DOWN THE HOLE HAMMER ROCK DRILL
The down the hole hammer rock drill was designed to drill through ground that is too hard for
the hammer to drive a post i.e. so to hard rock
Before operang your rock drill please follow this procedure;
1. Remove the drill from storage
2. Remove the cap from the top i.e. the threaded end
3. Using some approved Air Tool lubricang oil, place approximately 30 ml into the top of
the hammer and allow it to drain through.
4. Apply normal grease to the thread. Fig 1
5. Place the drill through the boom bearing.
6. Screw by hand the hammer into the drill connecon. (Note the drill will self ghten as
the drawer rotates the opposite way to the way the drill screws in) Fig 2
7. For connecng the air hose to your drill rig ensure that there is no direct contact within
the hose by blowing a small quanty of air through it. Fig 3
8. Connect the hose to the drawing by inserng a clip to ensure the two connecons do not
break loose.
9. The drill can be operated by the valve in g 4
10. Operate the drill by using the hydraulic control at the top of the control panel
11. Apply downward pressure to ensure the drill does not bounce
12. Ensure that the boom bearing is placed 2 inches o the ground while drilling
13. As the drill is operang there will be a quanty of dust and drilling nes exing the hole
by the means of compressed air been exhausted
14. Either apply water mist to compress the dust or place suitable cover to contain the dust
and drilling nes from going airborne
15. Operators should maintain good ear protecon, suitable mask if required
16. Final setup. Fig 5
