Only use test pistols in perfect condition with new-value cables! Check test pistols and cable for obvious
damage every day before starting work! Faulty test pistols (even with the slightest fault at the device or at
the lead!) have to be put out of operation immediately and must be sent back to the manufacturer for
repair!
Attention!
For reasons of personal safety, a 3mA AC or 12mA DC test current limitation at the high-voltage test can
only be effected by means of hardware integrated in the testing device. An adjustment by software of the
maximum test current to 3mA or 12mA, at which the device is to switch off, does not serve for personal
safety, because the current may, for a short time, reach considerably higher values.
Only a limitation of the maximum possible current through hardware is allowed for personal protection.
This is done optionally inside the testing device by means of a resistor. Only in this case, the otherwise
necessary protection measures, as described in the VDE 0104 (EN 50191), can be reduced.
Test pistols with integrated push-button
If test pistols with integrated push-button are used, the test is started automatically by
activating the push-buttons of both test pistols. For this purpose, the lever at the test pistol needs to be
operated first, so that the test probe tip in the insulating tube is activated. Now the test probe tips must be
pressed on the test object. The push-buttons in the test pistols must be activated for the complete duration
of the test; otherwise, the test will be interrupted.
Fault analysis
If test pistols with integrated start switch or push-button are used and the test doesn’t start, for
finding out what the problem is, the test probe of the test pistol must be touched under no circumstances.
For checking the test pistols, they must always be disconnected from the tester. Only when they are
completely disconnected from the tester, they can be checked.
