SC213 Diesel Engines
To Remove the Timing Gears
1. Remove the fan belt, Crankshaft pulley and Timing
case cover.(Fig.L.1)
2. Lock the flywheel from moving.
3. Loosen and remove the bolt securing the fuel
injection pump gear.
4. Remove the F I P gear.
3. Loosen and remove camshaft gear securing bolt
and washers. Remove the camshaft gear.
5. Remove the bolt securing the idler gear and
remove the idler gear ( ).
INSPECTION
1. Check the timing gears for wear or damage, replace
if necessary.
To Replace the Timing Gears
1. Turn the crankshaft and bring No. 1 piston to T.D.C.
i.e. with the key-way at the front of the crankshaft
uppermost.
2. Turn the camshaft and position the key way to the
uppermost.
3. Fit the camshaft gear. Ensure the camshaft gear
alinined with the timing marks of the balancershaft
gear.
4. Fit camshaft secring bolt and tighten the bolt to
torque 81 lbf.ft (110 Nm)
5. Fit the fuel injection pump gear. Fit the FIP gear
securing washer and nut. Tighten the nut to torque
122 lbf.ft ( 165 Nm).
6. Position the idler gear ensuring that the timing
marks align with other timing gear marks as
shownin (Fig.L.3).
7. Position the idler gear securing bolt and tighten
the bolt to torque 122 lbf.ft (165 Nm).
8. Check the backlash between the idler gears is 0.06/
0.14 mm (0.002/ 0.005”).
