CAMSHAFT GEAR AND CAMSHAFT
To Remove the Camshaft Gear and Camshaft
1. Remove the cylinder head and remove the tappets.
2. Remove the timing case cover.
3. Release the camshaft gear securing bolt from
the camshaft and remove the camshaft gear. Use
suitable long bolts to driveout the gear. (Fig.L.5)
4. Remove camshaft thrust washer mounting bolts and
thrust washer.
5. Remove the camshaft from its location in the
cylinder block taking care not to damage the
journals and cams.
INSPECTION
Check the camshaft bores:
1.930 / 1.931inch (49.025 / 49.050 mm)
Check the camshaft journal dia.:
1.927 / 1.928 inch (48.95 / 48.975 mm)
The running clearance in journals:
0.001 / 0.003 inch. (0.05 / 0.1 mm)
Cam lift : Inlet and exhaust : 0.393 inch (10 mm)
To Replace the Camshaft Gear and Camshaft
1. Fit the camshaft carefully and continually turning
the camshaft. Take care not to damage the journals
and cams.
2. Fit camshaft thrust washer. (Fig.L.7)
Camshaft Thrust
The camshaft end float is taken up by camshaft thrust
washer (sintered) which is retained by two setscrews
Camshaft End Float (Measure with dial Gauge)
0.10/ 0.35 mm (0.004/ 0.014 in.)
Note: Ensure camshaft key and key way on the camshaft
gear align properly.
2. Replace the camshaft gear aligning timing marks and
secure the camshaft setscrew using torque wrench.
Camshaft gear bolt Torque81 lbs.ft ( 110 Nm)(Fig.L.8)
3. Replace the tappets and fit the cylinder head.
4. Refit the push rods, rocker arm shaft assembly and
reset the valve tip clearance.
5. Refit the timing case cover
