5.4 Switching off the instrument

If the spectrometer is switched on but not used for an extended period of time,
ozone (O
3
) is generated in the small gap between the X-ray tube and the Beam
Stop. Ozone is an extremely reactive gas and has a corroding effect on the
excitation and sample chamber.
If the spectrometer is not used for more than one day (weekends, office
holidays) it is recommended to switch off the instrument.
If you do not work with the system for an extended period of time, the X-ray
tube must be operated in standby mode for at least one hour once a month.
This procedure is also required if the instrument is not to be used afterwards.
To switch off the instrument, proceed as follows:
1. Open the instrument server that is installed on the computer and select
"Shutdown".
2. A security question will be asked. Confirm the question with "Yes".
