Operation & Service Manual (VA) 50 ST1175
6.8 Outdoor use
When the lifting system is used outdoors, you must take account of the maximum
permissible wind speeds. Maximum permissible wind speeds for various types of
vehicles are given in the next table.
The values in the table are averages and may only be used as a guideline.
The maximum permissible wind speed depends on both the type of vehicle and its
weight. When hoisting large vehicles with high sides, the values for lighter vehicles
should be observed.
Type of vehicle
Empty weight
Maximum permissible
lateral wind speed
Busses
22,000 - 33,000 lbs
45 miles/h
(8 Beaufort)
Lorries and heavy vehicles
> 22,000 lbs
54 miles/h
(10 Beaufort)
When deciding whether it is safe to use the lifting system, the user must take all
factors into account. When in doubt, always err on the side of caution and use the
values for the lighter vehicles.
Do not expose the column lifts to rain. For more safety information, see also the
safety measures described in chapter Safety (on page 15).
