Tall-LeftRule
Thisruleconsidersmodelswhere,afterbeingorientatedonthebuildtray
accordingtootherconsiderations,onesideistallerthantheother.
SincetheprintheadsmovealongtheX-axisfromlefttoright,taller
sectionsontherightrequiretheprintheadstoscanunnecessarilyfrom
theleftuntilreachingthem.If,ontheotherhand,thetallersectionsare
positionedontheleftofthebuildtray,theprintheadsonlyhavetoscan
themodeluntilprintingthesesections—oncethelowerpartshavebeen
completed.Therefore,youshouldpositionthetallersideofthemodel,
whenpossible,on the left.
ThefollowingrulesarebasedonthefactthatSupportmaterialisnot
requiredonthetopoftheprintedmodel.
Recess-UpRule
Thisruleconsidersmodelscontainingsurfacerecesses.
Recessesinthesurface(likehollows,drillholes,etc.)should,when
possible,bepositionedface-up.
Fine-SurfaceRule
Thisruleconsidersmodelsthathaveonesideonwhichtherearefinedetails
(likethekeypadsideofatelephone).
Thesideofthemodelcontainingfinedetailsshould,whenpossible,be
positionedface-up.Thisresultsinasmoothfinish.
AvoidSupport-MaterialRule
Thisruleconsidersmodelsthathavelargeholesorhollows,openonatleast
oneside(likeapipeoracontainer).
Itmaybeadvantageoustoprintamodelstanding up,soSupportmaterial
doesnotfillthehollow,eventhoughprintingthemodellyingdownwould
bemuchfaster.
