5.6 Steady rest
To place the optional steady rest on the machine the following steps need to be
followed:
1. Clean the guiding and the feet of the steady rest to avoid damaging
on the machine frame or steady rest.
2. Place the steady rest on the machine frame.
3. Put the clamping block (6) underneath the guiding of the machine
frame. Place the bolt (5) through the feet of the steady rest and mount
the nut.
4. When the steady rest is on the correct position tighten the nut (5) until
the clamping block is clamped.
To remove the steady rest of the machine, follow the above described steps
reversed. We recommend to avoid placing the steady rest on the feet outside
the feet to avoid damaging the precision guides.
Loading the machine with the steady rest:
1. Untighten the nut (4) on the front side of the steady rest until bolt can
be released.
2. Open the steady rest by lifting the upper part and using the hinge.
3. Load the machine, loose the locking of the mandrel (2). Adjust the
mandrel by rotating the hand wheel (1) until the work piece is well
aligned. Lock the mandrels by using the screw (2).
4. Close the steady rest and tighten the locking (4)
The maximum load of the steady rest is 400kg.
To avoid damaging to the work pieces or bearings of the steady rest it’s strongly
recommended to check the alignment of the bearings. When the bearings will not
be parallel to the Z-axis of the machine the alignment can be adjusted by the
following steps:
1. Untighten the adjusting screw (8) on the end of the mandrel near the
bearings.
2. Adjust the alignment of the bearings until the flat surface of the bearing (7)
is parallel to the Z-axis of the machine.
3. Tighten the adjusting screw (8)
It is forbidden to adjust the steady rest if the machine is operating.
